In Spite of This Week’s Latest Attack, Democracy is Prevailing

The insurrection at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. yesterday was a sinister attack on democracy and counter to the principles for which LIIF stands. We strongly condemn the mob violence incited by anti-patriotic falsehoods aimed at discrediting a valid presidential election and the will of the people.

Today, we are more resolved than ever in our commitment to creating communities of equity, opportunity and well-being for all and staying true to our work to advance social justice and anti-racism.  We march ahead with our allies, encouraged by the certification of President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris, as well a new Congress. As we saw this week in Georgia, and throughout this chaotic election season, Americans, particularly Black people and other people of color, have shown up in record numbers to exercise true political power through organizing and voting. In spite of this week’s latest attack, democracy is prevailing.

This moment is also a reminder of the enormous work ahead; we cannot let up. We must seize the opportunity of a new Administration and Congress to continue our fight for racial and economic equity. As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to ravage our communities, let us also not lose sight of the pressing housing, educational, health, and economic needs of Americans. LIIF affirms our unwavering commitment to this.
