Intersection Connection
About Intersection Connection
In a medically underserved census tract in Lafayette, IN, where the median family income is 45% of area median income, a new 120,000 square foot community hub is poised to bring extensive community resources. The Intersection Connection campus will include a YMCA, community-based health center and youth/workforce training. For low income residents, YMCA membership and full-time childcare services will be offered on a sliding scale.
Intersection Connection was borne of a partnership among the YMCA, Ivy Tech community college, local hospitals, civic groups and the City and County who recognized the powerful potential in co-locating community services. Project leaders hope that this innovative collaboration will improve local health outcomes while creating economic opportunity.
For example, Ivy Tech students can drop off children at the YMCA while earning their degrees – reducing a significant barrier to retention. Families can take advantage of financial literacy courses and health screenings without leaving the parking lot.
