On April 28, LIIF, partner Volunteers of America Texas (VOATX), and representatives from the Harris County Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity and commissioner precinct offices conducted a site visit of Houston’s Texas Jump-N-Learn, which has a primary focus of addressing the growing demand for specialized care serving children from ages 4-12 years. With a $150,000 SHINE Child Care Facilities Fund grant facilitated by LIIF and funded by Harris County, this child care facility will now have long-term sustainability of their small business through increased enrollment and revenue.
SHINE grant funding will be put toward the construction of a sensory room tailored to meet the unique needs of children with autism and ADHD, providing an enhanced learning environment to help them thrive. The center also plans to replace their outdoor mobile kitchen with an indoor facility to improve food safety and hygiene; add an additional bathroom; and increase capacity from 44 to 60+ children. These upgrades will allow Texas Jump-N-Learn to expand their services to more children with special needs.
The SHINE (Supportive, Healthy, Inspiring, and Nurturing Environments) Child Care Facilities Fund program aims to improve the quality of child care in Harris County, Texas. SHINE provides grants for renovations and repairs to home- and center-based child care facilities, ensuring every child has access to a safe and nurturing learning environment.

We wanted to grow in the direction of serving children with special needs. SHINE came around and it opened our eyes that we could do what we were trying to do.
