With our nationwide investments now having preserved or produced 100,000+ units, LIIF was excited to participate in “Affordable Housing Month,” in partnership with SV@Home. On May 22, LIIF and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation co-hosted “It Takes a Village: Cross-sector Networking for Child Care and Affordable Housing Co-location.” This convening was a networking lunch for 44 housing developers, early care and education (ECE) providers, architects and consultants, policymakers and funders. The collective goal was to learn, advocate and take action to strengthen communities. The topic was co-locating affordable housing and early care and education (ECE), which are the two highest-cost items for households. LIIF’s Angie Garling offered insights on this topic (top photo).
Our forward-looking strategy is a win-win: Families need access to housing and child care that are both affordable if we are to create a robust national economy. The idea for this co-location networking event came from LIIF’s work on the Brighter Futures Fund, our partnership with Goldman Sachs that provides 3.5% interest loans for child care centers and has had a focus on co-location.
