LIIF and NAEYC Release New Report on the Intersection of Child Care and the Climate Emergency

April 22 is Earth Day — a time to celebrate our planet while raising public awareness about the environmental challenges we all face. That’s why LIIF and co-author National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) chose today to release their report, “Building Child Care Resiliency in the Face of a Resiliency in the Face of a Changing Climate.”

For early childhood educators, the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events — from heat waves to hurricanes and wildfires to floods — poses significant risks to the physical and mental health of children, caregivers and staff. This makes it increasingly difficult to keep #childcare programs operational. Our timely report outlines these challenges and offers solutions for the early care and education (ECE) sector.

We are an all day care center. The children need to be outside at some point. The air quality in California has been terrible due to fire. The children have been exposed to less than desirable conditions to get them out of the classroom.
