Ribbon Cutting Celebrates LIIF's Catalytic Capital Investment in The Hub in San Francisco's Sunnydale

Last winter, LIIF staff toured the construction site of The Hub in San Francisco’s historically excluded Sunnydale community. LIIF provided $13.6 million in New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation authority, a $1.5 million capital campaign bridge loan and $3 million in early care and education (ECE) grant funding to finance the construction of this 28,000-square-foot, multi-tenant facility designed with community voice at the center.

Today, we headed back to join hundreds for the ribbon cutting of this brand-new community center that is the heartbeat of the neighborhood. In attendance were Mayor London Breed, State Sen. Scott Wiener, District 10 Sup. Shamann Walton and Assessor-Recorder Joaquin Torres.

The Hub exemplifies LIIF’s investment in co-located child care and affordable housing, as amid hundreds of units being constructed by Mercy Housing is now the location of Wu Yee Children’s Services’ New Generation Early Childhood Education Center that will serve 72 young ones from three months to 5 years of age. Additionally, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco’s Springer Clubhouse has space for 135 children, with services running the gamut from academic support and weekly gardening to nutrition programs and STEM activities. The Hub also offers additional space that can accommodate the needs of 200 community members, serving as a meeting ground for neighbors.
