LIIF's Child Care Work on a Global Stage at "Child in the City Seminar 2024" in Rotterdam

The week of Dec. 3, LIIF’s child care work was on a global stage at “Child in the City Seminar 2024: Keep on Moving,” a convening which took place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Our Shelly Masur and Joe Fretwell offered insights on the intersection of child care and the climate emergency. To exemplify the crisis, they used the case study of Harris County, Texas (Greater Houston), referencing LIIF’s second climate-risk report in a series on that region’s vulnerability to floods and other natural disasters for child care providers’ facilities.

Read the report.

I saw various examples during the trip of attainable climate-mitigation strategies grounded in values of starting small and from the ground up — in places where we can test and evaluate ideas, bring new people to the table, and meet a moment of enormous uncertainty with a little more playfulness and joy.
