North Star Academy Charter School
LIIF provided New Markets Tax Credits and led additional financing to renovate the two middle school campuses for the high-performing North Star Academy Charter School in Newark, New Jersey. In addition to the middle schools, North Star operates a high school and an elementary school. North Star’s students consistently outperform their peers in Newark and the State on annual state assessments. Historically, 100% of North Star’s high school graduates have been accepted to college. The school is a member of the Uncommon Schools network, a nonprofit organization that starts and manages outstanding urban charter public schools that close the achievement gap and prepare low-income students to graduate from college.
