N.Y. Healthy Food & FRESH Program assists in the development of new supermarkets
In certain neighborhoods of New York there is a lack of supermarkets and nutritious food. Over the past three years, the New York Healthy Food & Healthy Communities Fund (HFHC) has provided $6.14 million in loans and grants to seven supermarket projects aimed at improving access to nutritious food for people in underserved communities in New York State.
The seven projects receiving funding are spread across New York State and include Mount Vernon and the Boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island, which also received tax incentives through FRESH (Food Retail Expansion to Support Health).
