OUR IMPACT
LIIF works to alleviate poverty by providing capital and technical assistance for affordable housing, child care, education and other vital community development services. Over its 24-year history, LIIF has provided more than $875 million in financing and technical assistance for projects benefiting low income communities in 26 states, leveraging additional private, public and philanthropic investments of over $5.4 billion: a six-to-one ratio. Through these projects, LIIF has served approximately 620,000 people and supported:
- 55,000 units of housing;
- 100,000 child care spaces;
- 46,000 spaces in schools for children; and
- 2.5 million square feet of commercial and community facilities space.
LIIF impacts the hardest to reach populations, providing opportunities to help low income families build savings and combat practices or conditions that deplete their life assets. Approximately 71 percent of families supported by LIIF-financed projects are defined as very low income, and one-third of LIIF’s projects serve special needs populations including battered women, people with HIV/AIDS, the homeless and the mentally ill.
LONG TERM IMPACT
LIIF has a ten-year goal of “A Billion for a Million.” This goal challenges LIIF to mobilize one billion dollars to serve one million people by 2014. “A Billion for a Million” joins LIIF’s two key focal points—the people that it serves, and the capital that it uses to serve those people. Since establishing this goal, LIIF has organized all of its work and strategies around achieving this ambitious long-term target.
RECOGNITION OF IMPACT
In recognition of LIIF’s financial strength and performance, Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) awarded LIIF the highest possible score—a "1"—on the CARS™ rating system.
